The Days Are Long

The days are long, but the years are short. – Gretchen Rubin

Gretchen tells us something here that I think we all learn at some point in our lives. When we had our first child, it seems like everyone who was grandparent age would tell us something along these lines. They told us these long days would pass by quickly. I have to be honest I don’t think I understood because I could not relate to what they were saying.

To me, I was just in over my head, and some days did seem longer than others with a new baby. Maybe that was just due to lack of sleep. As our kids get older, I can now relate to wise wisdom from others years ago. The days may be long sometimes, but the years are short.

Make the long days work for you. When you find yourself with your family, take the time to make memories. One of the best parts of my day is when I get an alert on my phone that shows me pictures from years past. While today may be long, looking back at these pictures seems just like yesterday.

Make it a point to live in the moment with your family. We get so caught up in trying to make it through the day that we don’t take time to appreciate the moment we are in. True happiness comes when you are in the moment making happy memories to look back on in the short years to come.
