Leadership starts in the home

No More Tolerating Today

A national day of gratitude.  This Thanksgiving I am sure I fall into the category that most of us do where we consider ourselves blessed.  When all is said and done today is a day like any other day.  The difference is we set aside time to look for the things we have and not the have nots.

So many times in our lives we are looking toward tomorrow, next year, or 10 years from now.  While we need to have a vision of where we want to be we can’t get lost in the destination and forget the journey.  We get caught up in everything we are trying to get done and it makes us simply tolerate today.  We only tolerate it enough to make it through another 24 hours.

Today or any other day is not a day just be tolerated.  Today is a day to celebrate and embrace each day for what it is.  Another day to look for what we are grateful for and build relationships.  As we build these important relationships we build our leadership.  As we build our leadership we build ourselves.

For the past couple of months, I have started each day the same way.  Listing a few things I am grateful for that very day.  This is anything from time to spend with my children to flannel sheets that make it oh so hard to roll out of bed.  I have to set the alarm 10 min earlier when those sheets come out.  There is nothing more satisfying than hitting the snooze for 10 more min in those warm sheets.

If our attitude is one of the most important growth tools we have then the most important thing we can do to better our attitude is better our gratitude.  Always remember that it is our gratitude that determines our attitude.  Your family will mirror your attitude so it is important we don’t just tolerate today.

Take the time to have activities to help your children find things to be grateful for.  Start your day by looking for things to start your attitude off right.  By looking for what we can be thankful for.  Much like the spirit of Christmas we always talk about making it an effort to have a spirit of gratitude in your homes each and every day.

Embrace the day and as Hellen Keller said: “Be happy with today while working for what you want.”
